After our science test, we went on a field trip to Singapore’s oldest reservoir, the Macritchie reservoir. It was a great chance for all of us to learn more about ecology. We did not have much time to see the whole reservoir as we were short of time. However, we managed to gain some insights and knowledge about nature. Overall, it was an enriching excursion. Some of the places we went to at the reservoir were the forest and fishing areas and the amenities center. We did a couple of activities such as testing for the quality of water by factores such as the pH level, oxygen content and the temperature.Ms Nada also talked about the problem of human impact on the environment. For example, she told us that stepping on the soil actually caused it to become compact, hence many plants were unable to obtain enough water and nutrients. Thus, many plants died in places where people occasionally step on. Through this excursion, I learned that it is important for us to protect the environment. Also, I learned that we must watch what we do as we often don’t realize some things that we do can actually affect the environment. This is because in the long term, an impact on the environment may cause global warming which would cause big problems to all of us.

This excursion has been a fruitful one as it has given us a good exposure to the environment as we are often caught up with our busy timetable. I would definitely want to come back to this place to soak up information about ecology and more or less appreciate the environment.
